First and Foremost...
Karen is doing fine!
Thank you for your prayers and concern!

August 19
Radiation treatments went fine and Karen is not in any pain.

Surgery is scheduled for Aug. 21st from 10:00AM - 2:00PM, at which point she will return home. There will be no overnight stay. The doctor has said that this is not a very painful surgery. After surgery, Karen will need to stay indoors for at least 1 week, up to 2, to avoid dust. She must only do light work.

August 11 - 15
Karen is scheduled for radiation treatments everyday at 5 minutes per day, August 11th thru 15th.
The procedure is not painful.

July 16 - 20
Karen to Florida.

Friday - July 11, 2008
7/11/08 Friday at 1, Karen saw Dr. Peter Blackburn who did an ultrasound on her left eye and was surprised to find the choroidal melanoma, or eye tumor, had shrank! Praise the Lord! On 6/29/08 the tumor was 13.5 X 12.5 mm long and 6.2 mm thick. It shrank by 7/11/08 to 10 X 12 mm long and 3.5 - 4 mm thick.

Because the tumor shrank, Dr. Blackburn will not yet schedule surgery to remove the left eye, but will look at Karen's MRI and see her when she returns to UK Clinic on July 28th for a checkup and ultrasound. Both eye surgeons agree that waiting up to 3 months will not put her at risk of the cancer spreading.

Another praise, Karen's brother, Tom, and sister, Debbie, both went to Dr. Augsberger on July 10 at 3. Debbie had only a freckle in her eye and not a mole or cancer, and Tom's eyes and head hurt from straining his eyes by reading too long without glasses.

Thanks again for all your prayers and support. Keep looking up!

July 3, 2008
Karen has a doctor's appt. scheduled for July 11th. Her eye surgery will be at the UK Clinic (Karen Bleeds Blue) and may be scheduled for July 31st. Although the doctor says that Karen's condition is not hereditary, her brother Tom and Deb are going to the doctor next week for a check-up just to be sure.

July 2, 2008
Karen went to Dr. Philip Leming, oncologist (cancer doctor) on July 1 and found out test results show no cancer in her brain or other organs, just in the left eye and orbit (around outside). Dr. Leming's official description was "high risk choroidal melanoma with risk of systemic spread." The melanoma is currently inside her left eye on the left corner and has grown through the eye wall and is now also on the outside behind the eye. When it gets inflamed, a blister shows up in the left corner of her eye and her eye turns red and swells shut. The eye does not hurt and it is not an "infection" but an "inflammation". They do not think it has gone beyond the eye and socket and said Karen is generally "very healthy and young appearing" (Karen liked that part). The plan is to do one week of high dose radiation to the socket, at 5 minutes per day, and a 1 1/2 hour surgery to remove her left eye. She will have one night hospital stay and two weeks recovery inside her house. The radiation and surgery have not yet been scheduled, but will most likely be this month. We would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers.
